András Veres, blessed the renovated church of St. Martin in SzombathelyThe exterior and interior renovation of the St. Martin Church took several months. Thanks to these works a new environment receives the pilgrims coming to the chief town of Vas county.


András Veres, blessed the renovated church of St. Martin in SzombathelySt. Martin’s Church, according to local tradition, is built in the place where St. Martin's parental house once stood and where the saint was born. The area of ​​the church and its surrounding was an early Christian burial place of ancient Savaria. Saint Quirinus, who died as a martyr of the city was presumably buried here. It is traceable that as early as the 9th century the church was dedicated to St. Martin. It was rebuilt several times, gaining its present form in the 17th century, in the Dominicans’ time.

András Veres, blessed the renovated church of St. Martin in SzombathelyPreparing for the St. Martin Jubilee Year the full interior and exterior renovation of the building took place. In addition to the roofing renovation, the façade was also remade. The interior has a new coloring, new lighting, sound system, fitted with a glass door, restorers worked on renewing the sculptures and paintings. The church has a new liturgical space.

The renovated church was  blessed by bishop András Veres. Saint Crescentia’s relique was placed in the altar.
